Lebanese Arak, similar to Turkey's Raki and Greece's Tsikoudia, is an acquired taste, but what a great taste it is! The Arak Razzouk Distillery's Arak bottling here is made from grape spirits distilled with aniseed. Intense sweet licorice notes aside, another facet of Arak which can overwhelm imbibers who prefer liqueurs with lower alcohol, is that this is bottled at 100 proof. The alcohol content dramatically impacts the flavor (spicy), weight (heavy) and texture (thick). All that said, this ancient transluscent, herbal, grassy and anise-flavored deserves a place on your home bar. In a pinch, it could be an absinthe alternative. 100 proof

Used to raki back home, so I grabbed this Lebanese arak expecting something familiar—and it delivered, with that same bold anise kick but a slightly smoother grape aftertaste. Poured over ice with water, it turned milky and mellow, just the way it should. A bit pricey for the bottle, but you taste t

The anise flavor is bold and authentic—just a splash with ice and water transforms it into a milky, smooth drink that’s perfect for slow sipping. Much cleaner than other araks I’ve tried.

Elizabeth ★★★★★

The grape spirit base gives this a much cleaner finish than other anise drinks I've tried. Mixed it with ice and water last night and the louche was perfectly milky and smooth.
