The indigenous Piedmonte grape Ruche is difficult to grow and make good wine from, but you wouldn't know that from tasting Dacapo's 'Majoli' Rucche di Castagnole Monferrato! Intense aromatics include anise, black pepper, violets, strawberry, and rosehip. Blackcurrant jam, blackberry and licorice inform the smooth palate that finishes with dusty tannins. Certified Organic vineyard. Vegan.

The aromatics on this one really surprised me — violets and dark cherry jump out of the glass before you even swirl it. For a grape that's supposedly hard to get right, this drinks smooth and lively, and I love that it's organic too.

I usually find Ruche a bit rustic, but this 2023 pours with a softness I didn't expect from such a fussy grape. There's a floral lift on the nose and a dry, almost savory finish that kept me going back for a second glass. Organic too, which is a nice bonus.
