Part of the Long Shadows portfolio, the 2020 Pedestal Merlot is a blend of 84% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot. Grapes hail from Weinbau Vineyard on the Wahluke Slope, a warm site that delivers Merlot with layers of dark, textured fruit with vibrant character. Red Mountain and Candy Mountain vineyards give the wine its backbone. Dionysus Vineyard contributes to the Pedestal’s distinguished mid-palate, adding beautiful richness. Concentrated ripe huckleberry and wild blackberry flavors seamlessly blend with hints of sweet violet and oak spice. Espresso and dark bitter chocolate elements add depth. The wine is lush and rich on the supple mid-palate with a velvety, textured finish that lasts suggestive of a long future in the cellar. Sustainable.

Natalie ★★★★★

Weinbau Vineyard fruit really shows through in this blend — the 14% Cabernet gives it a nice structure without overpowering the Merlot's softness. Poured beautifully with dinner and got better as it opened up.

Miles ★★★★★

Opened this on a weeknight expecting something heavy, but the Wahluke Slope fruit keeps it surprisingly balanced and smooth. That 14% Cabernet adds just enough structure to make it feel serious without needing to decant for hours. I’ve already grabbed a second bottle.

Emma W. ★★★★★

The Petit Verdot in the blend really adds a nice structure, giving the dark fruit some backbone without making it too heavy. Opened this with a steak dinner and it was a perfect pairing.
