Part of the Long Shadows portfolio, the 2020 Sequel Syrah was created from grapes sourced from multiple sites on Red Mountain as well as the Boushey and Bacchus vineyards. Purity of fruit is key here. This expressive juicy Syrah is deeply colored, with dark, spicy aromas and complex, multi-layered flavors. Bright cherry, wild blueberry, ground pepper, savory black olive tapenade and chocolate are enhanced by the wine’s vibrant, mouth-filling viscosity and texture. Beautifully rich with refined tannins stretching across a long, concentrated finish. Sustainable.

I opened this with some trepidation, but the way the Syrah layers dark berry fruit from those Red Mountain sites is absolutely seamless. This drinks beautifully now, though I suspect it has a few more years of development ahead.

The purity of fruit really shines in this wine—layered dark berry flavors without any heavy oak masking them. It paired beautifully with grilled lamb chops last weekend, smooth enough to drink now but with enough structure to cellar a few more years. Perfect balance for the price.

Popped this open last night and was immediately struck by how smooth and layered it is — the dark fruit just keeps unfolding with every sip. Definitely a solid choice if you're into reds that have structure but don't beat you over the head with tannins.
