"This house must certainly be the Latour of Portugal. Their ports are remarkably backward yet still impressive when young. Of all the vintage ports, those of Taylor need the longest time to mature and even when fully mature seem to have an inner strength and firmness that keep them going for decades. Their tawnys are also among the very best, though somewhat expensive. The 1980 is probably the best port of the vintage." - Wine Advocate "The '80 Taylor has mellowed. Deep ruby, with cherry and berry aromas, full-bodied, with lots of fruit flavors and hard tannins. Very angular." - Wine Spectator "Big deep colour, lots of fruit and grip, lovely balance, really good extract and shows more class than the vintage is known for." - Stephen Spurrier.

Emma ★★★★★

Opened this bottle after 45 years and it still had a dense, almost opaque color with a surprisingly firm tannic structure. The nose gave dark fruit and a touch of spice that kept evolving in the glass. Exactly what you’d expect from a well-aged port that was built to last.

Violet R. ★★★★★

I was impressed by how deep and complex the flavors are—the tannins have finally softened after all these decades, giving way to rich notes of dried fruit and spice. Perfect for a special occasion pour.

The cork came out in one piece after 45 years, which tells you how well this was stored. Deep, concentrated flavors of dark fruit and spice with a surprisingly firm tannic backbone still present. This needs at least another hour of decanting to fully open up.
